Week 16/2018: What’s on my design wall?

Last weekend I wanted to do some improvisational piecing and just started cutting. I used a selection of blue and orange/brownish fabric pieces from Cherrywood fabrics grab bags which were stacked in piles of 4, sliced once at an angle and pieced together to make 4 units with different colour combinations.

I think I’ll do another round of stacking, slicing and piecing.

I am going to see how I like doing a short post like this with a single picture of something I’m working on right now as a (semi) regular feature. I am usually more of a completed project blogger so we’ll see if I can keep it up.

Improv is especially fun to watch as it grows. Keep up the experiment, blogging as well as quilting.

Yes, it may turn out looking quite different by next weekend. One of the difficult parts is knowing when to stop so I try to keep a couple of days in between steps so I can have a proper look at what’s already there before I start cutting again.

This is inspiring me to hang my design wall. I hung the board today, but felt overwhelmed until I saw your photo. ❤️

A design wall is super useful, you won’t regret hanging yours! You’ll probably wonder why you didn’t already do it ages ago once you start using it. ;-)

I’m a huge fan of process posting, so I hope you keep it up. I like to see how things develop, how you arrive at the decisions you make, and how things change along the way.

I have to remember to take pictures and find some time to use my computer (and to actually sew so there is something new to show!).

I keep my camera in the sewing room. When I finish work for the day, I take a photo. Sometimes it becomes a blog post, mostly not, but it does streamline the process of recording my work :-)

I usually use my phone for pictures these days and I usually have it with me. I often just forget though, or I’m in a hurry because my daughter woke up and I sort of drop everything I’m working on. I am going to try though ;-)

  4. Oh I love your palette!
